"All principled humanity fell on deaf ears. At the time of writing, over 30,000 Palestinians have been massacred in Israel’s retaliation, of which so many are children that UNICEF’s James Elder called this “a war on children.” It has been five months of a genocidal bombardment that is unprecedented in the intensity and firepower used on a trapped population."

This week I feel as if I’ve forgotten how to write. It’s time to go back into the stream, to enter the waters. One way I do this is by invoking oracles and their art-counterparts, surrealist games and chance operations.
I’ve been at work creating some new writing oracles, but meanwhile here are two paragraphs from recent weeks where I am raising different forms of oracle-energy.

"The post-Roman period came to be known as the Dark Ages first because they were seen to be unenlightened, until Caesar Baronius retconned it: they were dark because of the lack of written records. In the Digital Dark Ages everybody is writing: posting to Reddit; sending e-mails; chatting in Telegram; producing Office 365 documents. But nobody will be able to read anything they write, and so knowledge of this time will be forgotten. Software has truly eaten the world."
periodic reminder for everyone to properly tag your posts with the language youre using!! you can set the language of your post while writing it, the exact method depends on the platform youre using. tagging a post with the proper language helps other users in many ways - you can filter and search for posts in just the languages youre interested in, and text to speech and automatic translation systems will have an easier time providing accurate results!
when i see posts tagged with the wrong language, its usually someone posting in a language different from their default posting language. i understand that a mistake like that can happen, but please do try your best - and if you notice you mistagged a post in the past, you can always edit it and change the language!

“Another problem I had with all my folder full o’ posts strategy was that I didn’t know whether a post was nearly done or a scrap of an idea. I was lost. Every two months or so I’d have to click through each file to repopulate my memory buffer with the statuses of each post. […]

Advice for science writers: pretend, just for a moment, that you actually respect your readers' time. Stop telling rambling stories. So much of climate science writing is horrific to wade through bcs it's written using the same old rules for writing fiction novels: a hook, building energy, climax, etc. It's garbage. Don't do that shit. No one even knows how to write a useful abstract. Pretend your reader is busy doing smth important and u need to get the key points across as …
This week, the French inventor of the prose poem, Francis Ponge, teaches me something about looking at a river:
“Therefore, writing about the Loire from a place along the banks of the river, I must constantly immerse my eyes and mind in it. Any time they dry up over an expression, dip them back into the waters of the river.”

A visible ‘Online’ status (as opposed to ‘Offline’) should be earned, not shared by default.
I’ll grant you insight into my online status once we’ve established asynchronous connectivity as our norm, and I can rest assured that you’ll be respectful of my time and attention regardless of my availability at any given time.
This is the kind of granularity that is woefully lacking in our communications software.
Starting a new regimen today. Every hour, before I can use my phone, I need to do 10 pushups. If I don’t use my phone that hour, I don’t have to do them. If the time is 9:45 and I haven’t used my phone yet that hour, but want to do so, I have to do 10 pushups.
And yes, I’ve done my first 10 before writing this. 😁💪
Will be interesting to see how many pushups I end up with today. Gonna be so buff in a couple of months. 😅

Current challenge: writing down a few requirements to make a horizontal timeline interface accessible. We’ll structure it using landmarks, sections, and headlines, first of all, plus buttons and the left/right arrow keys to travel from one point in time to the next.
Still, I’m wondering how a screenreader user might best understand and navigate such an interface. And: is it an ordered list as well? 🤔

I’ve finally put down in writing all of the ways in which my ex wife is f*cking up our kids. I’ve asked her to stop. From unlimited screen time to unhealthy food, and allowing a six year old to play 18 computer games. Damn it was cathartic to get that all out. I’ve said it all verbally before - which she’s ignored - but putting it in writing is so much more satisfying and important given the legal case I’m opening against her.

Ended up not reading last night but writing in my journal for the first time in a forever. The book I was meant to be reading (overcoming low self esteem) encourages you to write things down. I used to keep one regularly throughout school. It was a bit of an epic update because I can't remember when I last wrote one.
Still listened to Miles Davis though, made it all the way through Kind of Blue (approx 45 mins solid writing).
#writerscoffeeclub 1 What inspired you to begin writing?
The magic of the written word, the ability to send your mind a hundred years into the future or the past, has been an urge with me ever since I wrote my first word. I was 3,5 years old, and I wrote "Papa". I can honestly say that I've written all my life, I can't remember a time when I didn't write.
On economists & anthropologists:
"#Graeber specialized in theories of value: his Debt: the first 5,000 years provides a much-needed long-term history of money. Debt is exactly the kind of book contemporary economists are incapable of writing, because it requires viewing their paradigm as the product of its own time and ideology, instead of considering it as a natural law."
“But within the context of Isaacson’s nine books, Musk is not an anomaly. In method and thesis, it is perfectly in line with a career built on promoting elite interests under the guise of biographical neutrality and insipid humanism. I'm using LLM since Friday to help me writing a Visual Basic macro. I have 0 knowledge of VBA and Word API in the same time.
While I think I'd be much more efficient having a pair programming with someone who actually knows this technology, still LLM is a nice kick starter for terra-incognita places where I have no clue how to start, where to look and what I need.
Happy to have this tech.
This is the first time I've encountered so many students who don't clearly differentiate between fs and ts when writing by hand. There's a whole lot of 'shitting' going on in this year's final exam.
Policy on account management, but no reports to help us do it? A bit of a PITA for me to manual run three reports, save the output from SDSF to a flat file, clean out the crap, download then run in XLS to identify what needs cleaning? Way too manual and error prone. If I get time I may figure out writing a program so that a standard report is generated and then the output goes to records management for the security officers to review.

In October 2020 I installed two Samsung SSDs as cache devices in my NAS box (Synology DS918 ).
In the past 2 weeks, *both* of them failed. I suspect it’s because I have my security cameras writing to the NAS storage, and this crept my writes up to their 100% lifespan. No data loss because they’re cache devices only; my real data is on spinning disk.
I’m actually impressed that they failed at just about the same time. A good reminder to replace failing spinning disks immediately.<…

Sunday MIGHT be blog day...🤔
I haven't done that in A LONG TIME. However, there's been LOTS happening and I'm very excited for the future of the platform, right now.
I am obviously still a little cynical when it comes to corporations and their intentions with Fedi, though.
If I have time, (and if I feel good enough. Anxiety is a bitch) I'll do a writing session and detail my thoughts, reasonings, and experiences with this social movement so far.
I'll also be detailing the nuances of each cross-platform integration I have firsthand experience with.
Let me know if this is a type of blog post would be interesting or intriguing to you and it might help me with motivation to pull it off. I don't want to "yell into the void". Especially with something I have so much passion for, and will take some time to complete.
